Comments On Feb 11, 2014:I recently turned a pen from desert ironwood. My brother also makes pens and he warned against making a pen from this wood, stating it is very hard on tools, and is extremely difficult. We let me be the first to tell you, this pen was indeed hard. I used the Easywood finish tool, the round one, and it cut through the wood without any tear out or chipping. In fact the pen came out beautiful, and I intend to make a couple more. The character of the wood is just beautiful. Again the wood is very hard, but is well worth the effort. I finished the pen, a click pen in friction polish and the result is beautiful, did in mention the pen really looks great ;) .
