Comments On Jun 03, 2020:These bookmarks are great for using all those leftovers and offcuts from other blanks. It only takes about 15 minutes from start to finish. The only issue I have with them is that they are relatively small at just over 2 inches long. These would be much better if they were longer and bit more substantial. Still they are good quality and with the mandrel, very easy to assemble.

Comments On Jan 26, 2015:I have been making these for many years. I use up the cut-offs from pen blanks (both highly figure woods, resins & hybrids). I turn them to varying thicknesses for variety. Have used them as gifts and sell them at art/craft shows/sales. I use the 2 sided adhesive tape and mandrel available through Craft Supplies USA. I finish by sanding up to 800 grit and then finish with a few layers of CA, sand through 800 after each layer and then buff while on the mandrel (easier to hold when buffing). I use tripoli and white diamond on the buffer and then a hand application of Renaissance Wax over the entire piece. I have been using E6000 to secure the metal to the turned piece...works great. These are quick to make and fun.

Comments On Sep 06, 2014:These are great fun to make and are wonderful gifts! You can use the mandrel or simply glue your blank to a dowel that you have mounted in a drill chuck. It helps if you have sanded the edges of the blank to a roughly round shape first. Turn to the proper diameter, shape the face and finish as usual (I usually use CA). Part it off and glue to the bookmark using a drop of CA or E6000. If you know an avid reader (like my wife) they might use several! A perfect way to use small bits of "special" wood.
