Big blanks are challenging to come by and can be very expensive. Shoveling shavings into the trash that would have made a few more bowls is a shame. With Woodcut Tools Bowlsaver Max4, you can produce 3-4 additional bowls from a single 18" wood blank or a bit less from smaller blanks. Bowl coring is a cost-effective way to make the most of your hard-earned money and is good for the environment.
The Bowlsaver Max4 is a robust coring system designed by Ken Port of Woodcut Tools that offers a short learning curve for woodturners of all skill levels. Built to be user-friendly, with your safety a top priority, the Woodcut Max4 bowl coring system takes the guesswork out of bowl coring. Every system includes planning templates, access to online instructional videos, and everything you need to walk you through setup and operation. Whether you are coring wet bowl blanks or dry, the Bowlsaver Max4 is up to the task and will not disappoint.
Safe, Solid, and Simple to Use
The Woodcut Max4 coring system mounts directly on the lathe via the tool rest support and tailstock assembly to provide a rock-solid platform. It consists of precision-cast aluminum and steel components to provide maximum strength, minimize vibration, and support the specialized coring knives as they work their magic. With the Woodcut Bowlsaver Max4, you can say goodbye to the fear and anxiety associated with bowl coring using handheld systems.

About the Woodcut Bowlsaver Max4
Knives
- Three zinc-plated knives are supplied that support a cut size from 75mm (3") to 450mm (18") diameter. Each knife is shaped to a radius and is supplied with a precision sharpened Stellite cutter able to resist the shock of knots and stubborn areas when coring while providing a fine finish.
- The large knife features a concave shape that provides solid support while coring without the need for additional support.
- Knives are manufactured from high-performance steel that’s proven to retain shape and ensure a lifetime of efficient bowl coring. Each knife has an integral long-lasting Stellite cutter that can be sharpened using a diamond hone.
Stellite Knife Cutter Tip
Stellite is commonly used on tipped bandsaw blades used by commercial operations. Recognized for its unique ability to withstand shocks from knots, stones, and nails, it’s proven to offer excellent wear resistance. Each knife has a Stellite that can be sharpened and shaped using a diamond hone. A slight negative rake angle can be added to the top side of the cutter to produce a less aggressive cutting action.
Platform
- Bowl coring applies significant pressure to the platform, especially if the wood is hard and dense. The Max4 is made from precision-machined cast aluminum with steel components throughout.
- When coring large bowls, the knife experiences immense downward pressure. To prevent the knife from twisting, the top of the large knife is supported by a machined steel post, while a bearing supports the bottom of the lower knife.
Tailstock
- A machined No. 2 Morse Taper is supplied to enable integration of the Max4 product with the lathe tailstock and to ensure a stable bowl coring platform.
- A 3/8"-16" TPI threaded rod mounts in the tailstock quill to provide integrated support and stability from the No 2 Morse Taper.
Handle
- The 20" long handle features a solid steel, double wall assembly with 8-1/2" long foam grip added for comfort when coring.
- The 20" long handle is designed to allow you to add a second handle section if needed for additional leverage.
