Bring the natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains to your lathe with our Aspen Log Turning Blanks. These are the exact same high-quality blanks we feature in our world-class turning workshops. Known for its creamy white heartwood and striking mineral highlights, Aspen is a favorite for turners who appreciate a soft, forgiving wood that finishes beautifully.

Each blank typically features a natural exterior running the length of the piece, offering a rustic “log-to-vessel” experience. Whether you are practicing your fundamental tool kit or creating a gallery-grade hollow form, these blanks offer a versatile canvas for your creativity.

Important Turning Notes

  • Moisture Content: While these blanks are air-dried at our facility, they are a natural product. There is no guarantee of specific moisture content; blanks may be wet upon arrival. This makes them excellent for green turning or practicing drying techniques.
  • Tool Tip: Because Aspen is a soft wood, we recommend using razor-sharp tools to prevent fiber crushing and to ensure a crisp, clean finish.
  • Finishing: Aspen is highly absorbent and takes dyes, stains, and wood-burning exceptionally well. We recommend a sanding sealer to achieve an even topcoat.
