Details
- A top quality pen begins with precisely trimmed barrels. Trimming barrel ends prior to turning guarantees a perfect fit by eliminating unsightly gaps between parts. In addition, the pilot shaft removes excess glue from inside the pen tube that can interfere with assembly. Barrel trimmers can be used in a lathe chuck, cordless drill, or drill press. To change pilot shafts, simply loosen the allen screw in the cutter head and remove the pilot shaft.

- 3/8" pilot shaft
- 10mm diameter barrels with adapter tube for trimming tubes that require an 8mm diameter hole

Comments On Feb 02, 2017:I use this all the time! Don't forget a diamond hone and sharpen it regularly. It works much better sharp! Lol only took me 6 months to figure that one out.

Comments On Aug 16, 2016:I was worried the little screw on the trimmer to tighten it down would be cheaply made and strip. So far I have not had an issue with the threads wearing down and are always making a good connection to lock/unlock every time.

Comments On Oct 19, 2014:I've used this two ways - first on a drill and then with pen jaws on the lathe. You need some pressure for these to cut and square pen blanks so i found it difficult to do with a hand held drill. They work great drilling on the lathe and i imagine would work great with a drill press. This makes smooth cuts and i haven't had problems with it tearing up wood or chipping out pieces.

Comments On May 29, 2014:I bought this kit because of the versatility to be able use it for a number of different pen sizes and it works great! When I had originally bought it the head piece worked good for the first two pens but start to have tear out so when I called about it Craft Supplies USA sent out a new one and I have used it for a bunch of pens and it works great! I would buy it again.

If your going to make pens, get this kit

Comments On Oct 20, 2013:Between 1987 and 1997 I turned and sold over 10,000 inkpens. Of course, back then you had 2 choices ... slim line or Parker style double twist. Since then things have exploded in choices. And tools. A barrel trimmer is a must have item. even though I now rarely turn pens (except for special occassions or for Pens for Troops, Freedom Pens, etc.) I knew I had to have one. Although the product is named "Apprentice" it is really a very good, way above average product. Meets and exceeds all my needs and I am pretty particular.
