CBN sharpening wheels have become the new standard for sharpening. A few of the many advantages the Raptor CBN wheel offers over traditional aluminum oxide wheels is that it cuts efficiently without heat buildup, it never changes size or shape, the wheel face is always flat, and you never need to balance the wheel. In addition, the Raptor CBN wheel produces a super clean, razor sharp cutting edge with a highly polished bevel that’s less likely to mark the freshly cut surface of the wood. CBN wheels are not intended for rough shaping tools.
The ideal sharpening set-up: For rough shaping or modifying tools we recommend the 46 grit Norton 3X Grinding Wheel as a companion to your Raptor CBN wheel as it removes material quickly and efficiently. A grinder with both wheels makes for a perfect sharpening station.
