We’re happy to introduce Craft Supplies USA Veteran Scholarship Recipient, Greg Fries, Staff Sergeant, US Army Ret.
After medically retiring from the Army in 2017, Greg found it difficult to keep a regular job after 2019. The change left him feeling lost and looking for something to keep him active and challenged. He decided to try woodworking again, a craft he had enjoyed in high school and always had a knack for.
Before long, Greg’s son moved back home and showed interest in working with him in the shop. The two of them quickly discovered that they both enjoyed using the lathe and learning more about woodturning. They have spent countless hours together watching YouTube videos, practicing new techniques, and improving their skills.
Greg was recently selected as our newest Veteran Scholarship Program recipient and is looking forward to taking a woodworking class in 2026 to continue learning and growing in the craft.
