The primary project will be a Shreddies bowl that combines woodturning and multiple surface embellishment techniques. Instructor Michael Anderson, a master of the craft and a passionate communicator, is eager to guide you through every step of the process.

Beyond advanced woodturning, you’ll level up your toolkit with expert techniques in power carving, intricate pyrography, and vibrant drybrush coloring techniques. Expect daily deep dives into thoughtful design and dynamic demonstrations. You’ll leave with multiple beautiful, finished pieces and the confidence to tackle your most ambitious artistic visions.

Topics to be covered:

  • Explore the fundamentals of form, function, and design in calabash-style bowls.
  • Create decorative patterns using integrated carving, woodburning, and painting techniques.
  • Master power carving techniques for surface enhancement and texture.
  • Apply woodburning methods to add intricate details and depth to your designs.
  • Learn professional acrylic painting applications for high-contrast finishes.
  • Refine woodturning tool techniques to achieve optimum cutting results.
  • Practice tool sharpening techniques.

Our Dale L. Nish School of Woodturning facility is located in beautiful Provo, Utah, just 40 minutes south of Salt Lake City. Upon registering for a class, we will send you an email containing our Workshop Guide in pdf format to assist you in planning your visit to Utah. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

In the event of cancellation:
We reserve the right to cancel workshops up to 6 weeks prior to the class date. In the event of a workshop cancellation, full tuition will be refunded. Please do not make airline reservations more than 6 weeks prior to the first day of class as we do not reimburse for any travel expenses incurred.

Student Cancellation:
Cancellations less than 6 weeks prior to the start of class will be subject to a 50% cancellation fee.
